Dinny (Apatosaurus Cabazonus)

“This morning I rode my mustang westward through the Mojave Desert of Southern California with nothing but the sound of America in my ears. Granted that mustang was of the Ford variety, and the America I heard was from the CD I just got for Christmas by the band of the same name. In any case, I still got a sense of that westward pull, that stirring of Manifest Destiny that so many of our founding nation felt only two centuries ago.
In a fit of nostalgia, I exited Interstate 10 at Main Street in Cabazon for a long-overdue photo-op of the Cabazon Dinosaurs. Built over 30 years ago, this roadside attraction became part of the milleu of my childhood memories after a summer of marathon rewatching of “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”, directed by Tim Burton, when I first fell for his style of filmmaking.
Although I was too early for it to be open, it was still an enjoyable pit stop to stretch my legs for a moment before continuing on my way home; but next time I plan to tour the grounds as well as visit the neighboring Wheel Inn Restaurant for what I’m sure will be an interesting dining adventure.
